"Hall of fame" van vriendelijkheid

Huitema

Today I helped a Russian couple who fled to the Netherlands settle in their house.

Bronwyn

Our Neighbour is going through chemotherapy and has lost all her hair. As I went through the same last year, I bought her a gift certificate to chose a comfy turban I had loved in a  fabric of her choice, made by a local woman who also had cancer.

Noam

I taught my friends how to cook a cheap vegetarian dinner which got us to gather all together to eat together and share stories of our childhood

Rèka

I sent postcards for elderly who were alone for the holidays

Liam

Stopped and stayed with someone who landed badly on their leg from their bakfiets until medical professionals arrived. Helped her child to remain calm as she was getting medical assistance

Mareike

When I was a bit younger i had much less fear for the world. One day i came home from school and there was a man beating his partner while his kids were in the car watching. I immediately ran over and started yelling at him redirecting his anger towards me while i called the cops. I was able to get the woman and kids to safety and my father and i got her a taxi home. It taught me to always involve yourself if you can, others may not make it or be able to themselves.

Isabella

I babysat a little girl so her overwhelmed parents could have some me-time and a walk in the sun / lunch

Kinga

One of my friends broke her leg during a ski holiday, so I went to her place to clean and cook for her to help her out

Jasper

I helped two startups one with 2 women and one with 2 men, who recently finished university with positioning and Go To Market Strategy. When I left university I wished someone helped me with my startup, now I am that position so give back to society.

Bobbie

I invited the cleaner at the museum where I work for a special iftar event and asked him to sit with me and my friends for dinner. Afterwards he texted me that during the 3 ramadans he spent in the Netherlands after moving from Egypt, he had never felt so much at home as that evening with us

Jaqueline

For 6 months now I am a volunteer for the ‘depressie-vereniging’.
Together with an other volunteer we organise in Amsterdam-West
a supportgroup for maximum of 8 people, who are dealing with depression regularly.
We do this every other week.

Sonia

For almost a year now, I have been a volunteer at Plan C, a community center in the De Pijp district. I teach beginner salsa classes (mainly for the local community) and organize dance events.

Iiris

I helped my friend move out of the shared home with a recently former boyfriend; cooked her dinner, packed her things and carried them on a bicycle to a friends place across town. A few days later I took her out to dinner, because you don’t need a partner to have a nice date night <3

Janella

Growing up far from my mother, a simple but warm and caring lady who lived in our neighborhood took care of me and my sister and basically filled the mother role we lacked at the time. She also helped around my grandma’s house where I was living in and stayed with us daily. She quickly become part of our family and treated me as her child, not wanting to have her own up until now 30 years later. Since I became older, I wanted to give back to her in return to everything she’s done for us- that quite honestly cannot be paid back with money. I actively try to make time for video call catch ups to help her feel less lonely and provide some regular financial support as well. This deed is something I feel proud of because she has the kindest heart and of all people deserves to live comfortably and receive love even in the smallest ways.

William

I carry my neighbors packages up to them on the third floor whenever they come.

Vivian

As an expat having kids in The Netherlands, I found myself struggling to find resources when it comes to raising kids away from home and also a sense of community in motherhood. That's why I decided to create a whatsapp community of Greek mamas in The Netherlands, where mums can find support, tips, resources and make new friendships in their area. I am trying to share what helped me and create the opportunities for others to share too and support each other.

Perinna

When i get back from a trip, I am giving my leftover cash to a person in need i meet on the street.

Anonymous good-doer

I am from South Africa and I send money in the form of a grocery voucher to a guy back home who is struggling to find work and can't even afford basic food items. I pretty much cover a week of food for him and it is truly humbling how appreciative he is of it every single time.

Marine

I am a trauma therapist organizing free groups for incests victims and I am a bit tired. I would love to rest in the sauna with likeminded people

Prakhar

I always take the time to turn off any bike lights that I see left on around the city. I think coming back to your bike and your lights not working is such a disappointing feeling, plus cycling without them is dangerous/puts you at risk of getting a fine. I wish others would do the same for me if I left mine on by mistake so I do my best to see that other people don't experience a dead bike light themselves.

Ambra

I'm hosting dinner tables on how we invite everyday acts of (small) peace into our lives and how we can take collective action (like setting up mutual aid systems) to become a more peaceful society here in The Netherlands (my last table was last Saturday so taking some rest this weekend to prepare for the next!)

Barkin

Helped out a friend who is looking for a new job!

Anne

I do frequente clean up rounds in my neighbourhood and have a monthy clean up walks with residents around the Ookmeer refugee centre

Sonia

For almost a year now, I have been a volunteer at Plan C, a community center in the De Pijp district. I teach beginner salsa classes (mainly for the local community) and organize dance events.

Miguel
